If my kids are to choose what breakfast to have everyday, they’d definitely go for doughnuts and croissants. The Kaisersemmel/Kaiser roll, Vienna’s own, only falls third to the American and French pastry in their list. Of course, they won’t say no to cupcakes and muffins too.
It’s heartbreaking that in this part of the world there are no Dunkin’ Donuts, Krispy Kreme or any other doughnut chains we’ve known and loved growing up. If there are flavors to choose from of the very few doughnuts sold at Konditoreis (Pâtisserie) around, it would only be dipped in chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. It would be a very special case if chocolate dipped have nuts…most special if they have something inside like vanilla dipped with chocolate inside (but not whole doughnuts like our DD Bostoncreme).
Speaking of whole doughnuts, there’s the Krapfen or also known as the Berliner, not as soft but close enough and these are the ones filled with vanilla or jam most of the time strawberry, apricot and nectarines.
Long overdue post…still from last winter, but a rather odd winter day…early in February when the weather should be around 0° and lower, we got about 18° — the sun was really high up which sent the ice skating rink melting…Nevertheless, the kids still had fun on the ice and after an hour or two were really hungry.
Son 1 requested for crepes…Nutella is his favorite so we went to the stalls around the rink – found this 5kg Nutella bottle on top of a stall counter and fell in line. We waited for our turn…I first ordered raspberry and vanilla for my daughter and then the Nutella.
I was waiting for him to ask for some candy canes too but he didn’t. He was happy to have crepes. Finished all that serving on his paper plate.
This was son 2’s first time to skate in an open/outside rink…good thing he can do it all alone now, without the help of his siblings…
I reintroduced my two older kids to the red bee 2 years ago. It was my youngest’s first time to meet him and needless to say, they god hooked. My brother, then single would almost always give in to their request to visit the bee. This is one of those many meetings with him. Kids enjoy eating with him – chicken, lumpia, spaghetti, burger, fries and all. They’re also delighted how much my Kuya would spend for them and eat double their servings. 😀
After this particular visit, the kids asked for ice cream and well…all three ordered their favorite flavor…Ube/Purple yam…and son 1 turned out like this….
